She was injured when she fell off of a horse
Disabled for two years
Unable to leave their tiny apartment
Her husband would bring her stacks of books from the library
Which she would devour
One after the other
Until one day
He told her
“No more – there is nothing else there worthy of you”
“I have something for you”
He placed a typewriter in front of her
“Madam, I greet you on the first day of your new career.
Write me a story.”
